Sarah Scamperle
Botanical Illustrator & Sculptor
Sarah grew up barefoot and wild in the sandhills of South Carolina and has remained close to nature ever since. She was raised by two gifted artists, who encouraged her curiosity and creativity from a young age. Schooled in Ecology and Environmental Sciences, she continues to explore, honor and celebrate the complexity of the natural world through her creative studies.
Sarah has 20 years of professional experience working as a porcelain sculptor for the Tewksbury Creche and has worked with multiple ceramists in NC and ME. Her mediums of choice are ceramics and graphite pencil but she also has experience in fiber arts, textiles, plant-based dyes, basketry, watercolors, and wire sculpture.
Sarah’s artwork has been displayed at the Pearson Legacy Gallery (Deer Isle, ME), the Blue Hill Co-op Cafe (Blue Hill, ME), the MDI Hospital Waiting Room (Mount Desert Island, ME), and The Blue Hill Public Library (Blue Hill, ME). Her porcelain piecework is displayed annually at the Loyola Museum of Art (Chicago, IL) as part of the museum’s holiday exhibition, Art and Faith of the Crèche: The Collection of James and Emilia Govan and is featured in James Govan’s book: Art of the Crèche: Nativities from Around the World.
Sarah lives and works in Brooklin, Maine. She is the Art Coordinator at the Blue Hill Co-op and has facilitated the installation of monthly shows for the “Art in the Cafe” gallery since Fall of 2022. Sarah is the Co-op’s blog writer, as well as editor of and a regular contributor to the Harvest Herald newsletter.
